Chinese delegation’s visit

National University of Sciences & Technology, Islamabad, NUST and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, NUIST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in January 2019. The purpose of the memorandum was to foster collaboration in scientific research and student and faculty exchange in this regard between the two universities.

Since, the signing unfortunately China and rest of the world remained locked down due to COVID-19. However, in the meantime faculty from NUST namely, Dr. Salman Atif, Dr. Muhammad Azmat and Dr. Ejaz Hussain worked on a 110 M PKR project jointly with representative from NUIST on a project aimed at water shortages in the Indus River basin and climate tipping point. The project was granted as one of the few out of the ~200+ submissions that were made to the United National Environmental Program (UNEP) and Chinese National Science Foundation (NSFC). 

In the view of this project NUST and NUIST teams comprising of the following members from respective teams decided to have a start-up meeting.

  6. Dr. Muhammad Azmat (IGIS – NUST)
  7. Dr. Ejaz Hussain (IGIS – NUST)

The team arrived on the 20th of June 2023 at 1900 h and departed on the 24th of June, 2023 at 0700 h.

The team visited and met many people from the research community in Pakistan who would like to contribute to the research activities proposed in the aforementioned project. In this regard, meeting with IGIS faculty, MS research students and attending their presentation was a key part of the activities. Other meetings included that with the Chinese embassy in Islamabad the Pakistan Meteorological Department, faculty from the Quaid – e – Azam University, the National Agricultural Research Centre, the University of Peshawar, the Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, Comsats University Islamabad and esteemed host respected Mr. Nisar Memon.

The team concluded with offering invitation to faculty and students from NUST for a conference to be organized in China as a part of the Project in November 2023. The team was also kind enough to encourage students from Pakistan to apply for research degrees and scholarship at NUIST, Nanjing.
