Associate Dean Message1
Welcome to the website of the Institute of Geographical Information Systems (IGIS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).
IGIS is one of the four institutes functioning under the umbrella of School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE). All resources of IGIS are augmented by SCEE i.e. faculty, laboratories, library and transport. This ensures delivery of quality education and administration.
In 2005, IGIS inducted students for the first session of MS in Remote Sensing (RS) & Geographical Information Systems (GIS) programme, first ever of its kind in Pakistan to produce a potent task force in the field of RS & GIS. IGIS is first of its kind higher education learning institute in Pakistan where state of the art spatial education is delivered. The institute offers for the first time in Pakistan, keeping pace with the modern trends, four years’ undergraduate engineering degree in Geoinformatics and two years Master’s programme in RS & GIS and PhD programme in RS & GIS from Fall 2012
IGIS also provides customised training programmes to different organisations. The basic purpose of short term training programmes is to create awareness regarding utilisation of RS & GIS technologies in the decision making process. The institute has experienced teaching faculty holding PhD, MS degree from foreign Universities including USA, in various disciplines.
Geographic Information Technologies are useful in virtually all disciplines such as forestry, agriculture, hydrology and water resources, city and regional planning, environmental sciences, meteorology and climatology, urban design and infrastructure, geology, aerospace, public health, civil and transportation engineering, logistics and so on. Significant advances in spatial sciences over the last two decades and the need for more productive planning and effective resource management in public as well as private sectors of the country, contributed to NUST’s decision to establish the Institute of Geographical Information Systems to focus on the educational needs of students in GIS, RS, space sciences, and related information technologies.
The website has been designed to provide information about the Institute, its departments, faculty, academic programmes, admission procedures, employment opportunities, student affairs and various facilities. If you need more help or have suggestions, please contact by phone, fax or email.
Sincerely,
Engr. Dr. Ejaz Hussain
Associate Dean, IGIS-NUST
