In The Spotlights Academic Fighting Pandemic

Federal Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) organised a national Post-Covid-19 exhibition “Changing Calamity into Opportunities” at COMSTECH, Islamabad, on April 30, 2020. His Excellency Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, graced the occasion as chief guest. The showcase brought together various technologies and solutions developed by the country’s scientists, engineers and innovators, to fight the pandemic of COVID-19. Lt Gen Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retd), Rector NUST, accompanied by the university’s scientists/ Principal Investigators (PIs), partook in the event to showcase technologies and products developed by NUST.

NUST has been working for the past several weeks on developing technologies to combat the deadly virus and control its spread in Pakistan. The relevant projects displayed at the event included Coronavirus Testing Kits (CTKs), Aerial Spraying Unit, Tele-Operated Decontamination Robot, Hand sanitizers developed in accordance with #WHO and Centres for Disease Control & Prevention #CDC USA, disinfectants, ventilators and mobile application for home-screening for the virus. The Prime Minister extolled NUST scientists for their outstanding contributions, which, he said, would bode well in fighting off the crisis.

Other prominent dignitaries present were Minister MoST Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Minister for Defence Production Dr Zubaida Jalal, Special Advisor to PM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Nadeem Raza, HI (M).
